1 review for Villeroy & Boch Old Luxembourg Mugs 35 cl

  1. Dean

As someone who enjoys a good cup of coffee, I was excited to try out the Villeroy & Boch Old Luxembourg Mugs. The 35 cl capacity seemed perfect for my mornings on the road as a truck driver. However, after using them for a few weeks now, I have to say I’m disappointed.

First of all, the name of the product – Old Luxembourg – is misleading. The design and colors are nice, but they don’t exactly scream luxury or elegance as I would expect from a high-end brand like Villeroy & Boch. They look similar to the cheap mugs you can find at a dollar store.

In terms of usage, the handle is a bit thin and doesn’t feel very sturdy. The lip of the mug is a bit thicker than I’m used to, which makes it more difficult to drink from. Plus, the 35 cl capacity is actually a bit too large for me, as I prefer to have smaller cups of coffee multiple times a day.

Compared to other well-known coffee cups like Starbucks or even my trusty thermos, these Villeroy & Boch mugs just don’t measure up.

Lastly, the delivery process was a bit frustrating. It took longer than expected for the mugs to arrive in Jersey City. It wasn’t a huge deal, but for the price I paid I would have expected a smoother, more efficient process.

Overall, I have to give the Villeroy & Boch Old Luxembourg Mugs a rating of 2 out of 5. While the design is nice, the handle and lip could use some improvements and the name is a bit misleading. I wouldn’t recommend buying these, especially for the price they charge.

"How should I properly care for and clean my new Villeroy & Boch Old Luxembourg Mugs 35 cl to ensure their longevity?"

To ensure the longevity of your new Villeroy & Boch Old Luxembourg Mugs 35 cl, we recommend following these simple care and cleaning instructions:

1. Hand wash your mugs using warm water and a mild dish soap. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scouring pads as they can scratch the surface of the ceramic. Rinse thoroughly with hot water to remove all soap residue. Dry your mugs immediately after washing to prevent water spots from forming. You can use a soft cloth to gently polish the mugs and restore their shine. Store your mugs in a dry place, preferably in a cupboard or on a shelf where they won't be exposed to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. If you need to stack your mugs, place a protective liner between each one to prevent scratches and chips. Avoid using metal utensils to stir or drink from the mugs as they can leave marks on the ceramic surface. Instead, use wooden or plastic utensils. If you need to reheat your mugs in the microwave, do so on a low setting and avoid using them for hot liquids immediately afterwards. The sudden temperature change can cause the ceramic to crack.

How do I properly clean and maintain these mugs to ensure their durability and prevent chips or cracks over time?

To clean and maintain your mugs and ensure their durability, follow these steps:

1. Hand wash your mugs in warm soapy water using a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers as they can scratch the surface of the mug, leading to chips or cracks over time. Rinse the mug thoroughly with warm water and dry it immediately using a soft towel or cloth. This helps prevent water spots from forming on the surface of the mug. Avoid placing your mugs in the dishwasher as the high temperatures and harsh detergents can damage the material, leading to chips or cracks over time. Store your mugs properly to prevent them from knocking against each other and causing chips or cracks. Stack them neatly with a padding between each mug to cushion any potential impacts. Use caution when handling your mugs as sudden drops or impacts can cause chips or cracks. Always handle your mugs carefully, especially if they're full of hot liquids. By following these simple steps, you can help ensure the durability and longevity of your mugs, preventing chips or cracks from forming over time.

To prevent chipping, avoid placing the mugs on hard surfaces such as tile or concrete. Instead, use a protective mat or coaster. Periodically apply food-safe oil or wax to the outside of the mugs to protect the surface against moisture damage. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application. Why do my Old Luxembourg mugs sometimes develop white spots or rings after washing, despite using the recommended dishwasher settings?

1. Calcium Deposits:** Hard water can lead to the formation of calcium deposits on the surface of your mug. These deposits can appear as white spots or rings after washing. If you live in an area with hard water, it's likely that these deposits are causing the problem. Detergent Residue:** Some dishwasher detergents contain additives that can leave behind residues on your dishes. Over time, this residue can build up and cause discoloration or spotting on the surface of your mug. Temperature Imbalance:** If the water temperature in your dishwasher is not consistent during a cycle, it could lead to uneven drying. This can result in moisture spots forming on certain areas of your mug, especially if those areas are exposed to cooler temperatures than others. Material Defects or Impurities:** In some cases, white spots or rings might be due to material defects within the ceramic itself. For example, if there were impurities in the glaze during manufacturing, they could manifest as white spots on the surface of your mug after repeated exposure to water and heat. Dishwasher Settings:** The recommended settings for a dishwasher can sometimes cause issues with certain types of mugs. If your dishwasher is using a hot dry setting that's too aggressive, it might be causing these problems. Age and Wear:** As your mug ages, its glaze can become more prone to chipping or cracking due to wear and tear. This could lead to the appearance of white spots or rings if water gets trapped beneath the glaze. To mitigate this issue:

- Use a high-quality dishwasher detergent designed for ceramic surfaces. Check your tap water's hardness level. If it's hard, consider installing a water softener. Ensure your dishwasher is properly maintained and cleaned regularly to prevent residue buildup. Try running your mugs through an extra rinse cycle after the initial wash to see if this reduces spotting. Consider using a gentle dishwasher setting or adjusting your regular cycle to include a longer drying phase. It's worth noting that white spots can also be caused by other factors such as mineral deposits from water, improper storage of the mug, or even the type of ceramic glaze used on your mug.
